The Enlightenment Movement was a Hazara-led civil protest movement in Afghanistan, formed in 2016 over the route of a major power line.
The Enlightenment Movement, also translated as the Enlightening Movement, organised large peaceful protests in Kabul in 2016. Its demand was that a planned power line from Turkmenistan to Kabul run through Bamyan.12
For many supporters, the route stood for a much older grievance: the neglect of the Hazarajat by successive governments.
On 23 July 2016, its demonstration at Deh Mazang was struck by suicide bombers. See Deh Mazang bombing of 2016.
Please add the movement's founders, demands and later history from sourced accounts.
